چکیده

Fourteen triethylamine derivatives including the 2-(4-chlorophenylthio)triethylamine (CPTA) were all found to be effective in inducing the formation of lycopene in Marsh white seedless grapefruit (Citrus paradisi, Rutaceae); however, they differed in the degree of effectiveness. The structural feature necessary for inducer activity appeared to be the tertiary alkylamine. Compounds with an S atom joining the amine portion and the benzene

Response of barley quality traits, yield and antioxidant enzymes to water-stress and chemical inducers

Two field experiments were carried out in order to investigate the effect of chemicalinducers [benzothiadiazole 0.9 mM l-1, oxalic acid 1.0 mM l-1, salicylic acid 0.2 mM l-1] onphysiological and technological traits as well as on yields and antioxidant enzyme activities ofbarley grown under abiotic stress (i.e. water surplus and deficit conditions). Results showed thatrelative water content, le...

Carotenoids in Algae: Distributions, Biosyntheses and Functions

For photosynthesis, phototrophic organisms necessarily synthesize not only chlorophylls but also carotenoids. Many kinds of carotenoids are found in algae and, recently, taxonomic studies of algae have been developed. In this review, the relationship between the distribution of carotenoids and the phylogeny of oxygenic phototrophs in sea and fresh water, including cyanobacteria, red algae, brow...

Bacteriol. 91:535-545. 1966.-Myxococcus xanthus, grown vegetatively in the light, developed an orange carotenoid after the cells entered stationary phase of growth; pigment content increased with age. Cells grown in the dark did not develop carotenoid...

Regulation of carotenogenesis in the red yeast Xanthophyllomyces dendrorhous: the role of the transcriptional co-repressor complex Cyc8–Tup1 involved in catabolic repression

BACKGROUND The yeast Xanthophyllomyces dendrorhous produces carotenoids of commercial interest, including astaxanthin and β-carotene. Although carotenogenesis in this yeast and the expression profiles of the genes controlling this pathway are known, the mechanisms regulating this process remain poorly understood. Several studies have demonstrated that glucose represses carotenogenesis in X. den...
